Meet a fellow boba fanatic, FSTea Co-Founder Hannah Cho
It was the summer of 2001 and a particularly warm day in Irvine, CA. I was with a Chinese friend and she mentioned that she was getting a boba. Having never heard of that before, I curiously asked her what it was. Bewildered at having an add-on in a drink, I chickened out when I saw black balls hidden by a light brown drink in a white Styrofoam cup and told her I would try it later (never). Later (Never) came a week later when I happened to be at the same boba shop by myself after a haircut. I bravely ordered by asking for a boba, to which the shop owner asked what kind of tea. Flustered, I said the basic one and I want to believe she was empathetic to my inability to hide my flushed face trying to keep my cool and kindly explained the different tea options. I walked out with a cup of tea (now I know that it was a black milk tea) with boba. I took a swig and almost choked. After coughing for minutes and disturbing the peace I attempted to save some face and drank slower this time. I thoughtfully chewed the balls and thought “wow how weird, why would anyone get this regularly?” Since then I’ve been drinking a boba almost every day and have all of my work meetings and social events around my favorite drink (and sometimes meal) in the world!
When offered the opportunity to bring FSTea to the US market, I was so excited because I always wanted to be able to have my favorite drink anytime I wanted without any time wasted driving to a tea shop and waiting in line. Since then I realized that crystal boba is a healthier alternative to tapioca pearls so we’re launching with the crystal boba but are currently working on bringing tapioca pearls and other innovative add-ons in the very near future! Hope you enjoy it, this is dedicated to both boba die-hard fans and people who just got introduced to the boba world.
